WESTERN FLICKS

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

Western Flicks With Billy Disaster #1. Last nights movie was Hang ‘Em High starring Clint Eastwood and The Skipper from Gilligans island. Ooooh so THIS is where Quentin Tarantino gets a lot of his inspiration. This was almost like watching a QT movie. The opening scene where Clint is lynched by a bunch of cowboy gangsters and is luckily found hanging but still barely alive by a cop and a judge from a nearby town could have totally inspired the opening scene to Inglorious Bastard‘s. The tension is just as thick. So the judge gives Clint a job as a US marshal and...I won’t give away the story but a few highlights are...1)..the first public hanging scene where the filmmaker shows the execution only through sound and peripheral. 2)..The whole story is set up in the scene where the judge gives Clint his Marshall’s badge with some killer dialogue and bad ass acting. 3)..the court room scene that made me think, QT needs a court room drama movie! And 4).. The final hanging scene that Clint decided to skip cuz he needed to get laid. There are many more highlights but all in all this movie kicked ass! 5 shots for Hang ‘Em High🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight’s movie will be Once Upon a Time in the West.

Westerns Flicks With Billy Disaster #2. Last nights movie was Once Upon a Time in the West starring Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda. The Good...Claudia Cardinale♥️ is the foxiest woman this side of Mrs. Disaster. And Heidi Klum. Also the music by Ennio Morricone is incredibly beautiful. The Bad....This movie is SLLLOOOWWW! This movie is so slow it works at the DMV. This movie is so slow it turns triples into singles. This movie plays quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This movie is a Melvins song. This movie is an unplugged toaster. This movie was so slow my kids had retired and moved to Florida by the time it was over. The Ugly....This movie is LOOONNGGG..This movie was so long it...ok, I’ll stop. But seriously, you don’t even know what the story is about until the SECOND HOUR! 2 shots for Once Upon a Time in The West 🥃🥃 . Tonight‘s movie will be The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. ♥️You

Westerns Flicks with Billy Disaster #3. Last nights movie was The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance starring Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne. The Good...This is such a beautiful movie. It’s like a really well produced stage play with some terrific lighting effects and killer acting. John Wayne reminds me of my Uncle George where he is almost always confident with himself and speaks with authority. Jimmy Stewart plays the more vulnerable character and is masterful at it. And what a cool story. Oh! And the speeches given when choosing delegates are incredible! The Bad...As the title suggests, The villain (Valance) gets shot. And he deserved it. What an asshole. The Ugly... As I suspect I’ll see in a lot of these old westerns as I go through this 2 week series, The subject of Indians is not pretty. Or as they call them “Redskin Savages”. But ultimately this a a great story told well. 4 Shots for The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight’s movie will be Stagecoach. ♥️You

Westerns Flicks with Billy Disaster #4. Last nights movie was Stagecoach starring John Wayne. Our second John Ford/John Wayne movie in a row. This one is John Wayne’s 1st as the star in a Ford movie. This movie could almost be the 1939 version of QT’s The Hateful Eight. Although no one is actually hateful, and there is 9 characters that we follow throughout the movie. You have The prostitute, the drunk, a pregnant woman, a whiskey salesman, a Marshall and his fugitive, a banker, a gambler and the stagecoach driver. These guys and gals have to make a trip in the stagecoach across dangerous Apache territory and it’s a tense thrill ride. The highlight of this movie is when the stagecoach is under attack from the Apaches. The shoot em up chase scene is fast and dangerous. The stunts are truly death-defying. 4 Shots for Stagecoach🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight‘s movie will be The Misfits starring Marilyn Monroe♥️.

Western Flicks With Flicks with Billy Disaster #5. Last nights movie was The Misfits starring Marilyn Monroe♥️ and Clark Gable. For me, there were a few really cool things about this movie. First of all, a lot of it was filmed in Dayton Nevada where my old man lives. 2nd of all, some of it was filmed in Reno and Pyramid Lake (old stomping grounds). But most of all,... Marilyn Monroe!...Mrs. Disaster♥️ is a 10, and MM is a 9.9. And that’s what this movie is really about. Guys just falling all over her. She ends up with Clark Gable, which is fine because of his incredible movie star presence, however it’s a little creepy because of the age difference. MM was 36 and CG 59. It’s interesting that this was both of their final movie before they died. CG died of a heart attack a week after they finished filming and MM died of a drug overdose the following year. There’s a lot to like about this, the characters, the music, and the screenplay by Arthur Miller who was married to MM but were getting divorced at the time of filming. Oh..and everyone gets totally fucking hammered..a few times. I liked this one. 4 Shots for The Misfits🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight’s movie will be Tombstone. ♥️You

Western flicks with Billy Disaster #6. Last nights movie was Tombstone starring Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer among others. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed watching this one. There was a good pace to a pretty good story. And who doesn’t love Sam Elliott? However I’m developing some pet peeves in my Western Flicks series. There are a few things that I really need some lo-fi grit to. Like jazz and baseball on the radio, I don’t want my westerns to be too shiny and modern. The majority of the characters in this movie are just too beautiful. Their hair (and mustaches) are too perfect and they look like they’ve been personally styled by Hugo Boss. The super dramatic music felt misplaced like it belonged in a Steven Spielberg period piece. But in spite of my complaints, I still liked this movie. 3 Shots for Tombstone🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight‘s movie will be High Noon. ♥️You

Western flicks with Billy Disaster #7. Last nights movie was High Noon starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly♥️. You guys, this movie was fucking awesome! Every moment in this was artistic, detailed, and meaningful. It won 4 Academy Awards. Gary Cooper won best actor and it shows. It won best film editing and it really shows. And it won best music. The music in this movie by Dimitri Toimkin is extraordinary. The scene where the music matches the clock ticking to 12 o’clock is true genius. Grace Kelly may actually be the weak link in this movie as she is over shadowed by the bad ass Katy Jurado. The screenplay is seriously great where it doesn’t try to prove anything with clichéd catchphrases. I am bothered by the marriage of Gary Cooper (50) and Grace Kelly (23). That shit creeps me out. But whatever...this is one the best movies I’ve ever seen. 5 Shots for High Noon🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight‘s movie will be Shanghai Noon. ♥️You

Western flicks with Billy Disaster #8. Last nights movie was Shanghai Noon starring Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan. Imagine if Nickleback and Pizza Hut got drunk and had a one night stand, got pregnant, and had a baby. That baby would be Shanghai Noon. This movie is the 2020 of westerns. Only Helen Keller could love this movie. This is the Mitch McConnell of westerns. I hope Biden’s 1st act as president is to sanction Hollywood and demand an apology for making this. 1 Shot for Shanghai Noon🥃 . Tonight‘s movie will be A FistFull of Dollars. ♥️you (except you Shanghai Noon)

Western Flicks With Billy Disaster #9. Last nights movie was A Fistfull of Dollars starring Donald Trump. This was a wild one. It begins with a group of lawmakers counting the votes to see who would be their new leader. Unfortunately a large group of bandits led by a 2 point centaur stormed the castle to disrupt the vote. Chaos ensues as the outgoing leader stokes the fire of the bandits. Caught in the middle is a Man With No Name who represents the common sense of the community. Whether or not he prevails remains to be seen as this is the 1st of a trilogy. I needed 3 Shots for A Fistfull of Dollars🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight’s movie will be For a Few Dollars More. ♥️You

Western Flicks With Billy Disaster #10. Last nights movie was For a Few Dollars More starring Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. This is part 2 of “The Dollars Trilogy “ and it was pretty awesome. Way more focused than A Fistfull of Dollars (WFWBD#9). Clint is a bounty killer out to get a prize bounty named El Indio (Gian Maria Volonté) who is a truly diabolical and evil villain. But Clint isn’t the only bounty killer chasing the prize...Enter the amazing Lee Van Cleef. The scene where Clint and Lee face off is one of the best scenes I’ve seen in a western flick. They end up joining forces to share the bounty on Volonté. This movie has everything you want in a western. Bad ass dialogue, a great story, gritty shootouts, saloon brawls, and incredible music by Ennio Morricone. It was like as if Quentin Tarantino directed an episode of The Mandalorian. 4 Shots for For a Few Dollars More🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight’s movie will be The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. ♥️You

Western Flicks With Billy Disaster #11. Last nights movie was The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly starring Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef. When I gave a 2 Shot review of Once Upon a Time in the West (WFWBD#2), I got my ASS handed to me by a couple hundred people. I actually got banned from a Western lovers page like I was donald trump. I thought “well Mr. Disaster, You just must be really naive”. I knew that it was considered an epic masterpiece but I just didn’t get it. To me it was like Frank Zappa, I appreciate it, but don’t enjoy it. When I watched The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, I realized that this was the epic masterpiece I can get behind. The story telling and the story itself is soooo much better. The characters, the sound, the scenes, the dialogue, all of it is excellent. And the tension is real and doesn’t feel forced. And of course, the music is iconic. 5 Shots for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight’s movie will be The Proposition. ♥️You

Western Flicks With Billy Disaster #12. Last nights movie was The Proposition starring Guy Pearce, Emma Watsonand Ray Winstone . The 1st time I heard Nick Cave’s music is when I saw him play back in the 1900’s at lollapalooza and I fell immediately in love. His murder ballad style comes across perfectly in this movie as he wrote the screenplay as well as the music. This is the 1st western that made me cry. The tragedy is built up through the characters, music, and editing and it’s intensely emotional. It’s also brutal. It’s set in the empty desert of Australia in the late 19th century. The story deals with the fucked up imperialism of Great Britain, the fragile balance of what justice is, and the bonds of marriage and family. There is no comic relief, and no clichés in it. This movie means business right from the start. It’ll take me a while to recover from this one. 4 Shots for The Proposition🥃🥃🥃🥃 . Tonight‘s movie, The Magnificent Seven will be the final Western Flicks With Billy Disaster. ♥️You

Western Flicks With Billy Disaster #13. Last nights movie was The Magnificent Seven (1960) starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Eli Wallach. Compared to all the westerns that I’ve watched in this series, this one felt almost like a Disney film. A stark contrast to all of the Sierra Leone Flicks. The SL movies were like a Pink Floyd record and TM7 felt like a Backstreet Boys record in comparison. I did like it a lot of it though. It made me feel like 5 year old Billy Disaster sitting on the floor watching this with my cowboy costume on. And Eli Wallach is a bad ass! This movie was a remake of the Japanese movie Seven Samurai which I intend on seeing someday. 3 Shots for The Magnificent Seven🥃🥃🥃 ...So that’s it for Westerns. Thanks for playing. Coming next will be Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster! ♥️You
