Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #1. Last nights movie was Bottle Rocket starring Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson. So this was WA’s 1st full length feature and what a killer debut! I loved every second of this movie. Roger “Elitist Dickhead” Ebert gave it 2 stars !? It’s true that the story is a little unfocused but that’s not the point. What makes it so great is the performances by the Wilson brothers. They didn’t even need any character development as they played their parts so well that their characters became instantly developed. The comedy is super clever and unique and it’s delivered flawlessly. Owen Wilson deserves extra credit as he co wrote this and is basically WA’s partner. Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #2. Last nights movie was Rushmore starring Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and (almost) Mary Kay Letourneau. Ok, you know what? Me and Roger “elitist asshole” Ebert have problems. He gave 2 and a half stars to this movie. He described it as a “charming little picture”...Whatever dude, this movie kicks ass. It’s about a 15 year old super ambitious student named Max who knows how to get shit done. And he thinks he can use his driving energy and skill to seduce a teacher in his school (Letouneau). However she falls for Bill Murray and things get charmingly out of hand. There are so many wonderful details in this movie. And dozens of great quotes. My favorite being a jealous Max saying to Letourneau’s date..”I like your nurse’s uniform, guy”...”These at O.R. scrubs”....”O, R they?”. As a West Anderson rookie, I’m really beginning to understand the art in his movies. The photography, the comedy, the pace, the colors, the music. I just love it. Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #3. Last nights movie was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou starring Bill Murray, Owen Wilson as well as an insanely great ensemble cast. So far in my quest to become less culturally naive by watching these movies, Wes Anderson is 4 for 4 (I reviewed the Royal Tenenbaums as part of the Holiday Flicks with Billy Disaster series). What I’m loving most about these WA flicks is how much I love every character. The stories are not the priority in these movies, it’s the characters and their demeanor. They do a bunch of dumb and ridiculous shit but are quick to admit their mistakes and apologize. In the funniest ways. In Life Aquatic, Bill Murray plays an oceanographer who is complicated in 1000 ways and it’s my favorite role of Murray’s I’ve seen. Same for Willem Dafoe for that matter. As well as Jeff Goldblum. As well as Angelica Houston. The list goes on. And Murray’s insistence on believing that Cate Blanchett is a “bull dyke” is a joke that keeps on giving. Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #5. Last nights movie was The Grand Budapest Hotel starring Ralph Fiennes and Tony Revolori. So far in this WA series, this one is my favorite. This movie is almost like a Monty Python flick. It’s about how a concierge of the hotel (Fiennes) inherits a priceless painting from an 84 year old woman whom he was having an affair with . (“She was dynamite in the sack”...”She was 84 Monsieur Gustave”...”mmm, I’ve had older”)...However the deceased woman’s family contends the inheritance and the concierge as his side kick lobby boy, Zero find themselves in one shit show after another. The many side characters including Adrien Brody, Harvey Keitel, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum and of course Bill Murray and Owen Wilson among others are all killer. 5 Ziggies for The Grand Budapest Hotel👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤 . Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #6. Last nights movie was The Squid and the Whale starring Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, Owen Cline, and Jesse Eisenberg. So this is not a true Wes Anderson flick. He was a producer but it wasn’t written or directed by him. That being said, the terrific screenplay has his influence all over it. It’s a story that takes place in 1985 about 2 school age brothers whose pseudo intellectual parents are going through a bad divorce. The mom (Linney) (total asshole) has been having affairs and the dad (Daniels) is an overly intellectual college professor (total douche) whose career is in a rut. The movie focuses on how the 2 sons come to grips with their family breaking up and it’s depressing as hell. Which is weird because this movie is kind of an independent art drama that tries (successfully) to also be a comedy. I had a difficult time with it. The pain that the kids go through is truly painful and the reality of the situation is not something to laugh at. However, the screenplay is so great that it does have a ton of cleverly funny moments. 3 Ziggies for The Squid and the Whale👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤 . Tonight‘s movie will be Moonrise Kingdom. ♥️You

Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #7. Last nights movie was Moonrise Kingdom starring Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. Set in 1965, this movie follows the young love story of Sam (Gilman) and Suzy (Hayward) who are about 12 years old. Suzy lives with her family on an island off the coast of New England. Sam is on the same island in a camp with his scout troop. They are pen pals who decide they want to run off together. And they do. So now the rest of the scout troop and Suzy’s family set out to find them before a big storm hits. All of the WA stylings are here...The multiple rooms panned to one another with one camera. The super entertaining characters (Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis) with dozens of great quotes. (“Does it concern you that your your daughter’s just run away from home?”.....”That’s a loaded question.”)...And I’ve also discovered on of my favorite WA staples of how a character often walks or runs away at the end of scenes. I love that! This is another wonderful and charming flick by WA. 4 Ziggies for Moonrise Kingdom👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤 . Tonight’s movie will be Fantastic Mr. Fox. ♥️You

Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #8. Last nights movie was Fantastic Mr. Fox starring George Clooney and Meryl Streep. This is a stop motion animation movie based on the Roald Dahl story. It’s about a family of foxes whose dad (Clooney) is a writer by day and (secretly) a bandit at night. He steals chickens, ducks, geese, and hard apple cider from the local farmers. The farmers get cussing pissed and go all out to destroy Clooney and his family and animal friends. There are a cussload of great characters in this movie. My favorite is the farmer Franklin Bean voiced by Michael Gambon. He was so good that it made me wish all the characters were human. Quote of the movie...” hey, I didn’t get a job yet, or a Latin name. What’s my strength?”....”Listen, your Kiley. You’re an unbelievably nice guy. Your job is really, just too… Be available. I don’t know your Latin name. I doubt they even had a opossums in Ancient Rome”. This movie was super fun and is a total family flick. 4 Ziggies for Fantastic Mr. Fox👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤 . Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #9. Last nights movie was Isle of Dogs starring Harvey Keitel and Yoko Ono. The corrupt Mayor of Megasaki, Japan hates dogs and has them banished to Trash Island, a formerly civilized island turned landfill. The Mayor’s distant and heartbroken nephew steals a prop plane to travel to Trash Island to find his dog Spots. Meanwhile a group of activist college students intend on exposing the government by proving they stole the election and (I’m not making this up) DEMAND A RECOUNT! Then there’s the rescue mission, the love story, and the tail of a boy and his dog. (Get it?). But ultimately there is the unbelievably beautiful art and style of Wes Anderson. It truly is amazing. I dogs so 5 Ziggies for Isle of Dogs👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤 . Tonight’s movie, The Darjeeling Limited, will be the final Wes Anderson with Billy Disaster. ♥️You

Wes Anderson Flicks With Billy Disaster #10. Last nights movie was Darjeeling Limited starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman. This is a story about 3 brothers who go on a train trip across India to find spiritual healing for various reasons, get high, and see there Mom (Angelica Houston). Wilson plays a control freak who is recovering from a suicide attempt. Brody is trying to figure out how to leave his pregnant wife. And Schwartzman is going through a breakup. This one had a little bit of a different style than his other movies. But was still chock-full of great dialogue. *“why are your eyes so red?”...” why is your head so bald?”...The story itself feels very incomplete and there’s a reason for that..WA wants us to watch a short film he made called Hotel Chevalier as a prelude to Darjeeling. (It’s on YouTube). It’s about Schwartzman and Natalie Portman‘s complicated relationship is a hotel room for n Paris. It doesn’t really answer any questions that arise in Darjeeling. (What’s the deal with Bill Murray’s character?). Ultimately this movie was still super fun to watch for many reasons. 4 Ziggies for Darjeeling Limited👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤👨🏼‍🎤 .
